The following is attendee demographic information that may be useful to you as prepare your presentation:

About the Audience
IMPACT is an annual conference held exclusively for independent investment advisors. It is considered to be the premier industry event and a benchmark for the RIA industry, with world- class keynote speakers, educational sessions, networking opportunities and industry exhibits. IMPACT is held in a different city each year, rotating between an eastern and western regional location.  

Schwab is a leading provider of custodial, operational and trading support for these advisor firms. More than 5,700 independent advisor firms custody more than $477 billion in client assets at Schwab, as of December 31, 2008.

What is the average business size?   Attending advisor firms vary in size from sole practitioners to organizations of 25 to 35 employees. Assets under management range from less than $25 million to more than $5 billion per firm.
What size portfolios do RIAs manage?   Attending RIAs are generally focused on serving affluent clients with $500,000 to $5million in investable assets.
Why do RIAs attend?   Investment advisors attend this conference to network with peers and to be challenged by industry leaders and experts. They learn new concepts and techniques to help them manage and grow their business by attending their choice of 60 educational sessions and keynote speaker addresses and by talking to exhibitors and peers in the Exhibit Hall. Session topics include practice management strategies, compliance and regulatory issues, investment strategies, financial planning tools and Schwab Institutional solutions.

Keynote speakers include current industry and national leaders. Past keynotes include Bono, Thomas Friedman, Steve Wynn, Fred Reichheld, Malcolm Gladwell, Alan Greenspan, Fareed Zakaria, Madeleine Albright, David McCullough, Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani and former President Bill Clinton.

Audio/Visual Information
The following standard equipment will be provided in each session room:
Audio/Projection Package

  • 1 LCD projector
  • 1 projector screen
  • 1 podium with microphone
  • 1 wireless lavaliere microphone
  • 1 wireless handheld microphone

Presentation Computer Package

  • 1 laptop that includes:
  • Windows® XP Professional
  • 1.2g MHz processor
  • 40 GB hard drive
  • 156 MB RAM
  • Microsoft® Office Suite

All presenters must present from the session room laptops, so please send your final presentation to Jennifer York by Friday, August 21, 2009. You will have an opportunity to review your presentation onsite in the Speaker Ready Room before your session.

Audiovisual Requests
If you have additional audiovisual requirements beyond the standard listed above, they are subject to review and approval by the IMPACT Content Team and may be at your expense. Please contact the Schwab Content Team by August 21 if you require additional equipment. We cannot guarantee requests after August 21, and additional charges may be applicable.


Conference Attire:
Event attire for conference attendees is business casual. For educational session speakers, business attire is suggested. Please note that the average temperature in San Diego in September is around 77 degrees Fahrenheit.


Expense Reimbursement
Schwab will reimburse speakers a per diem based on current average fares related to the travel to and from IMPACT. The per diem includes airfare, taxi or shuttle transfer to and from your residence and the conference, and meals. Please note that the cost of one night’s hotel will be billed directly to Schwab and therefore, not included in this per diem.

Please refer to the grid for a breakdown of travel expenses. The per diem will be granted as follows:

Total Cost Reimbursed for Travel from Northeastern Region - $650.00

*The cost of the hotel expense will be billed directly to Schwab and is therefore not an out-of-pocket expense for speakers and not included in the per diem.
**Airfare is defined as the cost of a round-trip, coach class, 21-day advance purchase ticket between Speaker’s city and the Event. Airfare is based on ticket prices as of May, 2009. Please note: IMPACT 2009 has negotiated discounted rates with United Airlines and American Airlines for travel occurring during the dates of September 10 - 19, 2009. Speakers have the option of taking advantage of these discounts  by contacting United Meeting Plus at 800-521-4041, Authorization Code: 585HT, or American Airlines Meeting Services at 800-433-1790, Authorization Code: A1899AH.

An expense check in the corresponding amount listed above will be paid within 30 days following the end of the Event.

Format and Length Of Your Session
Educational Sessions and Spotlight Sessions:
75 minutes (60-minute presentation, 15-minute Q&A)
Extended Educational Sessions:
120 minutes


Host for Your Session
A Schwab session host will meet you in your session room before the start of your presentation and will introduce you at the start of the session. We will confirm your host for your session approximately one week prior to the start of the conference.

Onsite Speaker Services Room
A Speaker Ready Room will be available for you to use onsite at the San Diego Convention Center to help you prepare for your presentation. We will announce the room location closer to the date of the conference.
